Women advocacy group, The Lordes’ Love Rebels, wants a woman to lead the gender-based-violent monitoring in the WC, Court Watching Brief Unit.
In July Community Safety MEC, Albert Fritz announced Advocate Leslie Morris will lead the unit, which monitor the cases.
But, The Lordes’ Love Rebels, says government is failing to fulfil a promise to empower women in key positions.
Members of the unit attend courtrooms and identify inefficiencies in relation to the investigation or trial.
Spokespersons for the organisation, Unathi Ndiki says they’ll approach Premier Alan Winde and MEC Fritz this week over the matter.
Ndiki adds that there’re capable women who can hold these positions.
” Everybody thinks that as women we are not capable. The problem is that we’re not given opportunities by our counterparts, the males, to take up these positions. And we constantly find ourselves in a space where all the time we need fight and protest”.
