Wines South Africa wants the sale of alcohol to be opened up over the weekends as well.
The organisation says there’s a surplus of about 300 million litres of wine as the result of the ban on the sale of booze.
WSA says the time for wine lovers to visit cellar doors during weekdays, simply isn’t enough.
The organisations says it continues to engage with national government over the matter.
Spokesperson, Maryna Calow says if the ban is lifted, this will make a huge difference for producers.
“This is a problem simply because it takes so much space in the cellars. Wine is an agricultural product, but its product we can harvest only once a year, and if there’s no space in our cellars to bring in new stock or wine come harvest 2021, it’s a problem. This problem needs to be worked out someway”.
