
While there appears to be a definite decline in the number of new infections, the number of daily Covid-19 deaths remains high.
South Africa recorded 680 new Covid-19 related deaths on Tuesday, bringing the total to 41,797.
The majority of the new fatalities were reported in Kwa-Zulu Natal where 306 people succumbed to the virus.
It’s followed Gauteng with 141, the Western Cape with 95, the Eastern Cape with 86, the Free State with 28, Mpumalanga with 18, Limpopo 4, and the Northern Cape with 2.
Just over 6 000 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours, putting South Africa’s cumulative total of cases at more than 1.4 million.
Meanwhile in the Western Cape, has 19 407 active cases and 9 980 people have died since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
