Western Cape residents aged 50 to 59 will start getting their COVID-19 vaccinations today.
The registration for the age group started last week Wednesday the 30th of June and some appointments were confirmed two days later.
Authorities say they expected to administer around 100,000 doses by the end of this week.
And a total of 193 public vaccination sites will be utilised during this period.
The department will continue giving jabs to the elderly who require the requiring their first-dose of Pfizer vaccine, as well the second-dose.
Spokesperson, Mark van der Heever, said, “The EVDS system is accepting registrations and is allocating appointments for the people over 50 years to be vaccinated. The SMS appointment notifications to people over the age of 50 years, who have successfully registered, commenced on Friday, 2nd July. Thus over 50-year-olds with valid appointments will be accepted at our vaccination sites”.
