Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says the province is already preparing for the inevitable Covid-19 third wave.

He says the experts and epidemiologists are studying when the third wave is expected in the country, and the province.

Provincial health authorities admit that the second wave in December 2020 has been severe – much more so compared to the first wave.

The province has passed the peak, and the infection rate in the province continues to drop.

Currently, there are just over 8 500 active cases.

Winde says the epidemiologists will update cabinet within the next few weeks.

“As we move forward coming down of this wave, and of course the third wave which is inevitable. We also hope to bring you in the short future not far away, our next predictions. Of course looking and learning from our first and second waves.  Over the next week or two our epidemiologists will be running the numbers, looking at the way we predict our third wave”
