The Western Cape Government is worried by the continuous increase in the number of active Covid-19 cases.
Over the past two weeks, new infections have risen by more than 30%.
In fact over the past 24 hours, the active cases increased by 331.
As of Sunday, there were 5,060 active cases in the Western Cape.
Provincial health authorities have admitted that there are several widespread cluster events across the province.
Premier Alan Winde says the situation is starting to affect the health system.
“In the Western Cape, we are seeing a resurgence of Covid-19 cases. We might not be at the third Wave as yet. And I see that we are over 882 citizens in our hospitals with Covid-19, at the moment 213 of our beds in our ICU units are taken up by Covid-19 patients”.
