Lockdown Level 3 cannot mean business-as-usual, especially not in the epicentre of the corona virus outbreak.

That’s the message from Cape Western Alan Winde, in reaction to President Cyril Ramaphosa announcing the entire country will see lockdown restrictions relaxed from next week.

Under level 3, most economic activity will be permitted – although under strict health guidelines.

The 4 of the 12 national infection hotspots identified – are in the province, and of the now over 23 600 positive patients, 65% of them are also here in the Cape.

Ramaphosa has not ruled out the possibility of raising the alert levels, should there be a surge in cases from next week.

Winde said that while the re-opening of the economy is a welcome financial boost – retailers, employers and the public must do so with extreme caution.
