The Western Cape Health department is continuing with its inoculation drive.

The department says it received 5300 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine over the weekend, with two more tranches expected this week.

To date, the Western Cape received 31 260 vaccines and have vaccinated 27 570 healthcare workers in the province.

That means it has utilised 88% of its allocated quantity since the start of the vaccination rollout during Phase 1.

During his budget speech this week, Finance MEC David Maynier put more than two Billion Rand aside for the purchase and rollout of the province’s own vaccines.
