Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez says there’s been increase in active covid-19 cases at old age homes across the province.

A total of 1,430 people have recovered from the virus across various Western Cape facilities.

Another 100 are believed to be still infected.

Amongst those who have recovered is the 102 year old , Dinah Fourie, from Kensington.

Currently, older people in such homes are not allowed to visit their families, or receive visits from them.

Fernandez says she’s talking to her counterpart, National Minister Lindiwe Zulu about the matter.

” We are currently in consultation with National Department of Social Development, to explore ways that this can be changed, whilst ensuring that a second wave of the virus does not occur within these facilities”.
