There’s been a sharp increase in the number of new coronavirus infections in the country, with more than 18-Thousand new cases recorded

South Africa has reported an increase in the number of Covid-19 deaths as the country faces the peak of its second infection wave.

The Health department announced that 18-Thousand-555 new cases were recorded in the past 24-hour reporting period, bringing the total to over 1.278-million.

The country has also recorded 806 new Covid-19 related deaths with 235 in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng 211, Western Cape 151 and the Eastern Cape 150.

This brings the total deaths to 35-thousand-140.
