The Youth council wants the Western Cape to remain on level five of lockdown as covid-19 infections continue to increase.
The province has become the epicentre of the coronavirus with 1,870 confirmed cases, and 38 deaths.
Several sectors of the economy are expected to function from next week, as the country enters Lockdown Alert level 4.
The council in the province says it’s concerned that the Western Cape has the highest numbers.
It claims that a majority of the cases in the province arise from retail stores and factories.
The council’s secretary, Zuko Mndayi says the provincial government must intensify lockdown regulations.
” In light of this, we call on the Western Cape provincial government to maintain level 5 of the adjusted risk strategy in the province and intensify enforcement of the regulations where low levels of public adherence to the general lockdown regulations are identified”.
