The wine industry is already looking ahead to the third wave and have sent out a strong message that it won’t survive another ban.
The Standing Committee on Agriculture in the Western Cape legislature, says thorough consideration is needed when placing a ban on wine industry for future Covid-19 regulations.
The statement comes as recent figures show domestic wine sales have dropped by 40 percent last year.
This means millions of litres of wine currently in storages need to be sold.
The committee now blames the problem on lockdown regulations executed by national government.
Chairperson, Andricus van der Westhuizen says he will invite wine bodies and government, to discuss the matter.
He says national government needs to urgently communicate with the wine industry, to avoid further job losses.
