The Western Cape is now officially entering a Covid-19 third wave of infections.

This was confirmed by Premier Alan Winde during his weekly digital media briefing on Thursday.

The number of cases, hospital admissions, and deaths have all increased over the past week.

Around 430 new cases and 52 new admissions are reported per day across the province.

The Cape has been experiencing the resurgence of new infections for the past weeks.

Winde says that has sustained for some time and now led to the third wave.

“All the indicators that we have, be that the reproduction rate,  the increase in the number of cases in our province is more than 5,800 active cases, and on Wednesday evening more than 1,000 Covid-19 patients are in our hospitals”.
