The Western Cape Health Department plans to vaccine the remaining 50% of health workers by April 2021.
This was revealed by Head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete during the weekly digital media briefing, on Thursday.
As of Wednesday more than 36 000 health workers both in the public and private have been vaccinated across the province.
More than 44,000 dozes have been delivered to the Cape using Johnson and Johnson vaccine and Sisonke programme.
Cloete says the number of workers inoculated per day continues to increase.
“ On Wednesday we recorded the highest number of vaccines administered in a day, with 2 800. We are approaching the 3 000 vaccines per day. A week ago, we were 2 000 vaccines a day. This incrementally is capacitating our health system to be able to scale that rapidly over the upcoming weeks”.
