South Africans have flocked to the stores in search of the popular root ginger, with its healing properties, people are creating mixtures to help boost their immune systems.
A midst this, ginger has become scarce and expensive, with prices for the popular root more than doubling over the last six months.

People on social media have posted pictures of packets of ginger where prices have increased.
Twitter users posted that a kilo of ginger is R300 at Food Lover’s Market in Johannesburg and loose ginger is R199.99/kg at a Pick n Pay in Parow, Cape Town.
Pick n Pay also explained that ginger is experiencing a very high demand and many stores have had to import the product from other countries.
