Cape Town’s head of Health Services Zahid Badroodien has slammed non-mask wearing Capetonians who flouted COVID-19 safety regulations at beach protests over the weekend.

Several protestors descended upon Fish Hoek beach to demand that the nationwide Lockdown be lifted.

The organiser of the demonstration was arrested for assaulting an ENCA reporter.

The man in his 40s ripped off the reporter’s mask, saying he can’t speak with people wearing masks.

Badroodien says the irresponsible and misguided messages spread by some individuals, must be condemned.

“Now as we’re coming off our second wave, it’s not the time for us relax our Covid-19 behaviour messages. We know that mask-wearing reduces the risk of droplets spreading, therefore it’s the cornerstone of preventing Covid-19 infection in our City”
