The number of reported coronavirus-related deaths in South Africa has surpassed the 5,000 mark.

The Health Department says 85 more people have succumbed to the virus on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 5,033.

It also says more than 13,000 new infections were recorded in the past 24 hours.

The cumulative total of confirmed cases stands at 364 328.

Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize says 191 059 people have recovered, which translates to a recovery rate of 52.4 %.

This means that there’re 168 238 active cases in South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape continues to show steadying numbers, as of Sunday the province has 13,331 active cases.
