The heavy rains overnight and into Thursday morning, have already taken a toll in parts of the Cape Metro.

The City’s Disaster Management department has been inundated with reports of flooding in among others Gugulethu, Macassar Village and Phillippi East.

The Disaster Management Centre is currently doing assessments to see if the social security agency SASSA should be called on to provide relief.

Disaster Management spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, says several weather-related power outages have also been reported in the morning.

“The City expects an increase in service requests related to power outages during the bad weather from today onwards. This could lead to high call volumes being experienced by the call centre.
