The Health Department says 73 more people have lost their lives due to the covid-19, bringing the national toll to 2,529.

The department says of the new fatalities, 43 were in the Western Cape, 10 in the Eastern Cape, 6 in Gauteng, 6 in KwaZulu Natal, five in Limpopo 2 in North West, and 1 in Mpumalanga.

South Africa’s cumulative number of covid-19 cases stand at 144 264.

The country recorded 6,130 new infections in the last 24 hours.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said that a total of 70,614 people have beaten the virus.

This indicates that the country has 71,121 active cases.

More than 1,5 million tests have been conducted across the country.
