The Health Department says 143 more people have succumbed to Covid-19 over the 24 hour cycle.
Of the fatalities, 50 were recorded in the Eastern Cape.
It’s followed by the Western Cape with 32, Mpumalanga with 25, Gauteng with 14, KwaZulu Natal with 14, the Free State with 5, and Northern Cape with 3.
The national death toll now stands at 11,982.
The department says a total of 2,542 new infections were confirmed over the same period.
This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 589 886.
Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize said 477 671 people have recovered, which translates to a recovery rate of 80%.
This means that the country has 100 233 active cases.
