The Department of Basic Education has reacted to the South African Democratic Trade Union’s (Sadtu) call for schools to be suspended while the country battles the COVID-19 pandemic, saying such a decision will only be made by Cabinet.

A number of grades have gone back to the classroom since June, after the national lockdown prompted the schools to close doors.
