Covid-19 has claimed the lives of another 128 people, bringing the death toll in South Africa to 2,657.

This was revealed by Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday evening.

Of the new fatalities, 52 were in the Western Cape, 36 in Gauteng, 25 in the Eastern Cape, 11 in KwaZulu Natal, and 4 in Mpumalanga.

“We wish to express our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased”.

Mkhize said that a total of 6,945 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.

South Africa’s cumulative number of covid-19 cases stand at 151 209.

But, 73,543 people have recovered from the virus.

This indicates that the country has 75,009 active cases.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape has 15,819 active cases and 1,824 people have died.
