The City of Cape Town says it’s ready for the festive season, with measures in place to deal with challenges related to Covid-19.
The City launched its plan in a virtual media briefing, on Tuesday.
A number of resources will be deployed especially across beaches, on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Authorities say they will enforce rules especially at night-clubs, taverns and restaurants.
More than 2,200 law enforcement officers will be on duty during the summer period.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says they’re concerned with reported cases of drunk driving.
“There’re whole range of external partners who participate in our festive season joint operations committee, part of this planning, and daily operationalisation.  Most notably and immediately is our focus on alcohol related establishments. We will go out there and tackle those establishments that at night are not adhering to those regulations. Because they play a significant role in acting as additional sources of infection”.
