Western Cape health authorities believe the second wave of Covid-19 infections will peak early in January 2021. In the meantime, the rise in active Covid-19 cases in all districts, represents a significant second wave for the province.
A series of metrics supports this view:
The positivity rate is now at 50%, the death rate has doubled to 100 per day, and the use of oxygen for those hospitalised is approaching 70%. Head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete, says they’re now rebuilding triage facilities to create additional capacity.
” Temporary tents have been commissioned at Khayelitsha and Wesfleur Hospitals. More tents will be ready at Mitchells Plain Hospital and Brackengate on Thursday and at Eerste River, Heldeberg and Karl Bremeber Hospitals will be ready on the 8th of January 2021″
