South African swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker won the women’s 200m breaststroke this morning in a world record time of 2:18.95. She won South Africa’s first gold medal of the Tokyo Games.

Tatjana was incredible as she managed to finish 0.97 seconds ahead of American Lilly King.

The 24-year-old has marked the second African gold medal, a huge and proud moment for South Africans. Congratulations Tatjana, you have made your country so proud!
