South Africa has recorded another 159 deaths as a result of Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the national death toll to 12,423.

Of the new fatalities the majority were registered in KwaZulu Natal with 45 deaths.

It’s followed by Gauteng with 43, the Eastern Cape with 37 and the Western Cape with 29 and the Free State with 5.

The Health Department says just under 4,0000 new cases were reported over the 24 hour period, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 596 060.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the recovery rate now stand at 82%.

More than 3.4 million tests have been conducted across the country.
