
South Africa has recorded a further 78 new Covid-19 related deaths on Tuesday, bringing the national death toll to 52,788.
Gauteng had the majority of the new fatalities, with 45.
It’s followed by Kwa Zulu Natal 9, Limpopo 7, the Free State 7, Mpumalanga 4, the Western Cape 3, the Northern Cape 2, and the Eastern Cape 1.
The Health Department says 756 new infections were confirmed over the 24 hour cycle.
The cumulative number of cases since the virus was reported last year stands at 1 546 735.
The recovery rate is 95%, which means there’re 1,473,000 people who have recovered.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape has 2 189 active cases and 11,449 people have died.
