Some Cape Town health workers are refusing to return to clinics located in red zone areas, over ongoing attacks.

The facilities are in Samora Machel, Browns Farm and Crossroads.

Municipal union, Samwu confirmed that some clinics are temporarily closed, after the workers refused to return to work.

Discussions are underway between the City and trade unions, to reopen these health facilities.

Samwu’s Archie Hearne says a long-term solution is needed, because members of the public can’t access essential health services.

“ We do understand that disadvantaged communities need these services on a daily basis. And therefore a temporarily closure of these clinics can’t be a solution. There’re discussions underway to ensure safety of workers and members of the public”.
