Schools across the Western Cape are still busy assessing the damages endured during the recent holiday period.
Since re-opening on Monday the 26th of July, the education department has received a number of reports of burglary and vandalism at schools.
Vacations often see criminals target schools – and this has increasingly seen them making use of private security to try protect their assets.
But on Sunday evening the 25th of July, one of these security guards lost his life while trying to defend a Cape Town-school.
Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said, “ We deeply saddened by the death of a security guard who was allegedly attacked at a Metro Central school after confronting alleged vandals. The matter has been reported to SAPS and investigation is underway. This is a tragic incident and out thoughts are with the family in this difficult time”.
