While South Africans struggle through the alcohol ban, SAB have begun throwing away 130 million litres of beer. They have been forced to waste as a result of lockdown regulations preventing distribution and transportation. Sadly, today, 25 thousand litres were poured down the drain.
Beer-lovers look away while some of the countries most-loved labels such as Black Label and Castle Lager are being flushed away.
Last week the brewery pleaded with government to allow them to transport their beer, but the request was ignored. With the destruction of the beer, SAB says they will be forced to operate at half capacity over the next four months, with no bottling or distribution taking place.
2000 jobs will be lost and a further R500-million worth of excise tax will be lost.
