President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the country has moved to Alert Level 3 of the lockdown restrictions as of today.
Ramaphosa also announced last night that a wide range of restrictions have been eased.
On the back of a 20% drop in new Covid-19 infections, gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed again with immediate effect.
And – if those religious, social or political events take place outside – up to 100 people can attend.
The curfew has been pushed back to 22h00, leisure travel to Gauteng is allowed again, and the President confirmed today’s re-opening of schools.
For the Western Cape economy, the biggest announcement was the end of the prohibition on alcohol sales.
Ramaphosa said, “The sale of alcohol from retail outlets for off-site consumption will be permitted between 10h00 and 18h00 from Monday to Thursday. Alcohol sales for on-site consumption will be permitted as per licence conditions up to 20h00”.
