Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says his government is working to become the first province to beat load shedding.
During his State of the Province Address on Wednesday, Winde announced that they’ve set aside R20 million to roll out a Municipal Energy Resilience Programmee.
This assists municipalities to take necessary steps to generate, procure, and sell their own power.
Meanwhile City of Cape Town has been praised for protecting its customers from higher levels of black outs, thanks to the green power generated from the Steenbras of load shedding.
Winde says they’re making progress in this matter.
“I am very excited to note that Stellenbosch Municipality has already taken the lead, launching the first step in this project.Ā It becomes clear that we are moving towards a load-shedding free future in the province. The Western Cape will be the first province to beat load shedding in South Africa”.
