Western Cape Health authorities say they are listening to the concerns of nurses.

On Tuesday a number nurses picketed outside Tygerberg Hospital, disrupting the International Nurses Day’s programme.

Members affiliated to trade unions, Nehawu and Denosa, demanded personal protective equipment, and want private transport to and from work.

They claim that a number of nurses at the hospital have tested positive for coronavirus.

The department’s Head of nursing, Dr Tendani Mabunda, says they understand that nurses are anxious.

“All we need to do as the department is give the staff the platform to share their experiences. I think what the workers were trying to do was to demonstrate that they’re concerned, and they want us to take note of their concerns”.
