More than 90,000 Western Cape health workers – both in the private and public sectors – will be vaccinated in first phase.

This was revealed by Head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete, in the provincial legislature on Wednesday.

The Health department briefed the Covid-19 Ad Hoc Committee, on the numbers and types of vaccine for the province.

Nearly 2,000 health workers are currently being trained, and will be accredited.

The doses are expected to arrive within the next ten days.

Cloete says they still don’t know when exactly the doses will arrive, but plan to start the vaccination process on Monday the 15th of February 2021.

“The first allocation if for the people working for the Western Cape Health Department.  We have 35,000 employees.  The confirmation is the first and second dozes.  In the private sector, there’s an allocation of 58,000 for the first and second dozes”.
