More than 500 water tanks are headed to the Western Cape to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 in the province.
55 of the 537 water tanks, have already been distributed to some municipalities in the Cape, 40 of them are in the Central Karoo and 15 are in the Cape Winelands.
Other areas such as the Cape Metropole, Garden Route, Overberg and the West Coast are next on the line to benefit from the roll out.
The Western Cape has the second largest number of infections in the country, with 393 cases.
The Water and Sanitation department says this is a short term relief measure to minimise the spread of the infection.
Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau says the distribution of the water tanks will further alleviate the plight of rural communities who walk long distances to fetch water.
