More than 1 300 health care workers in Cape Town have been successfully vaccinated against the corona virus.
There are still around 60% of workers who need the vaccine, but City health officials are pleased with the progress of the vaccination drive.
The final shipment of vaccines for health care workers is set to arrive this week.
Currently there are around 1 000 active Covid-19 patients in the Metro.
While officials wait to roll-out the public phase of the vaccine drive, Mayco member for Health, Zahid Badroodien, is urging Capetonians to keep practicing those Covid-19 safety measures.
“The vaccination drive is critical to ensuring that our frontline workers are safe, and able to continue delivering primary and environmental health services to our communities. It is critical that we continue to observe health and safety protocols at all times. At present, there are more than a thousand active cases in the metropole – very few compared to the peaks of the first two waves, but a reminder that the virus is still among us.
