Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, says they have enough resources to respond to possible unrest in the province.

On Tuesday, Patekile and Premier Alan Winde, outlined the state of readiness of the province, amid fears that looting and riots could spread to the Cape.

The police, together with Metro Police and Law Enforcement Officers, are already patrolling several malls, warehouses and businesses.

There’s also aerial support in place if needed.

Police management have confirmed that no looting has been reported, and they are aware that some shops close as a precaution.

Patekile said since Monday we have moved to the next level of deployment, where we added more personnel on the ground, using our members who are trained but doing office work.
