Western Cape Health authorities say Cape Town hospitals have seen a marked increase in admissions in the past four days.
They say it’s due to an influx of alcohol-related incidents.
On Monday, the prohibition on alcohol sales was lifted.
The provincial health department says the cases are mostly reported at trauma and emergency units – and it’ll release exact numbers next week.
During level 3 of the lockdown, booze can only be sold from Monday until Thursday, between 09h00 and 17h00.
The Health department’s Dr Keith Cloete, says this puts more pressure on the health system.
