Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize, says 547 more people have died due to Covid-19 on Tuesday.

This brings the national death toll to 44, 946.

Of the total of new fatalities, Kwa-Zulu Natal recorded the highest number with 143.

It’s followed by the Limpopo, with 134, Gauteng 91, the Western Cape 69, the Eastern Cape 68, the Free State 30, Mpumalanga 9 and the Northern Cape 3.

The department says a total of 2 649 new cases have been identified over the same period, taking the cumulative number of infections to 1 458 958.

The number of people who have recovered from the virus, stand at 1 318 504, and the recovery rate has reached 90%.

The Western Cape continues to show a steady decline in new infections, with only 11, 570 active cases in the province.
