Golden Arrow has officially launched the first active electric bus in South Africa at its depot, in Montana, on Monday.
The event was attended by Western Cape Transport MEC, Daylin Mitchell.
The bus company’s remarkable renewable energy journey started in 2017, with a pilot project.
The test of the two buses was conducted in 2020.
As of last Thursday, the 1st of July 2021 the buses started operating between Retreat and Cape Town.
Mitchell says such programmes must be applauded.
“My Department endorses innovation programmes such as this one given the challenges experienced by our commuters in the absence of the passenger rail system. The narrative around safety on Golden Arrow busses is very different. After taking a ride in this bus, I am confident passengers will feel safe during their journey”.
