Efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the Western Cape mean some regions are cancelling public events.

In a bid to avoid large crowds congregating, public facilities and venues in these areas will also no longer be available to the public.

The George Municipality for an example has closed all its public venues for events, including sports facilities.

The Kannaland Municipality has also decided to close its town hall.

Provincial disaster centre spokesperson, James Brent-Styan, says law enforcement officers will continue to heighten their visibility and enforce lockdown regulations…

“Our work comes down to enforcing disaster management protocols to help slow down the spread of the virus in the Western Cape. We are doing enforcement with the resources at our disposal and in partnership with national SAPS, municipal law enforcement, the departments of Labour and Health, to name a few.”

Brent-Styan added that they continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis.
