Cape Town’s iconic 2de Nuwe Jaar celebrations have been postponed –  due to covid19 resurgence in Cape Town.

It was meant to take place in January.

The Kaapse Klopse Karnivaal Association says they’re now planning to host the event on the 16th of June 2021.

The event, which features more than 40 troupes, has around 10 000 performers. with thousands more who gather to watch the festivities.

The association’s director, Muneeb Gambino says, the safety of public and performers is very important.

“ We understand the importance of this event to the people of the Western Cape, which is the largest event on the African continent. We have to postpone the event for now until the 16th June. We will monitor situation, until the extent we are allowed host the event in a compliant and safe manner” .
