Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato, has hit back at the ANC which is calling for his suspension around the distribution of food aid.

The opposition in the City Council is accusing Plato of defying a government directive, after he distributed food parcels to communities during lockdown.

This is despite all councillors being prohibited to do so.

The party also accuses the Mayor of only distributing the parcels to DA supporters.

Plato says he’s raised concerns about the national regulations, which complicates efforts to assist the needy.

“The fact is the ANC wants to attack and disrupt every effort being made to care for the vulnerable. To date, the ANC has called for the province to stop school feeding schemes, has viciously attacked the City for caring for the homeless, and now they are calling on me to stop distributing emergency food relief,”
