Cape Town Firefighters are currently battling a blaze on the mountain slopes in Simons Town.

The fire broke out just before 06h00 on Monday above the Signal School.

Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, says there’s a big team of firefighters on scene to try and extinguish the blaze.

“We currently have ten firefighting appliances and about 50 firefighters on scene,  being assisted by Table Mountain National Park and a crew from the Navy. Two Oryx helicopters were requested from Ysterplaat Air Force base to assist with water bombing. The fire area has been divided into three divisions to make operations more manageable”.
