Western Cape Education MEC, Debbie Schäfer, has wished teachers in the province well as they take on the new school year.
On Monday marked the official start of the academic year.
The learners will return to classrooms on Monday the 15th of February.
Authorities have instructed all district offices to conduct a survey to determine which schools still need safety materials.
Those include PPE, sanitiser and cleaning materials.
Schäfer admits that this year will also not be easy.
“We have all been through a lot last year, and it is not going to be easy, but I want to wish you all the best. Thank you for the work that you will do to ensure that our learners catch up the vast amounts of work that were lost last year. And of course also to send a message of support and condolence to all those who have lost friends, colleagues and loved ones during this time.”
