All Western Cape teachers who were granted permission to work from home, during lockdown, are expected to report for duty today.

They were expected to return last week, but the provincial department said the announcement from the national department was too short notice.

The teachers with underlying health issues were given permission to work from home during levels 3 and 2.

More than 2,200 teachers were granted concessions across the province.

The Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says schools must ensure that they continue to follow all the relevant health and safety protocols.

“It’s definitely not the time to be complacent and safety is still key, not just for the teachers returning but for all staff and learners at the school”.
