A total of 41 cases related to gender based violence have been recorded in the Western Cape during the lockdown so far.
That’s according to the provincial department of Social Development.
The department says it received the numbers from the national call centre.
The figure was recorded between the 27th of March and 14th of April.
This number is worrying when compared to the 29 cases that were recorded in the first three months of the year.
Social Development MEC, Sharna Fernandez, they continue to provide to support for victims of abuse during the lockdown.
” The department continues to offer trauma counselling services for women and children, aimed at treating the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, emotional blunting and desensitisation to violence”.
