A third police officer in the Western Cape has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The member is stationed at the MMfuleni police station.

It’s understood that he visited the station, after he made an arrest.

The station remains closed until Thursday afternoon as it’s still being sanitised.

The police management say two other officers who tested positive for covid19, are stationed in Athlone and Hermanus.

National spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo, says members who came in contact with the officer are in self-isolation.

“The CSC will operate from a temporary structure on the same premises as the police station and service delivery has not been compromised. The Blue Downs Cluster office has also been closed and members who were in contact with the member are currently in self isolation. Due process has also been followed with the detainees at Mfuleni”.
