Western Cape and Cape Town disaster centres are on standby, to deal with any storm related incidents.
A major winter storm made landfall in the province last night and is expected to continue throughout the day.
The heavy rain, especially in the metro is expected to lead to localised flooding especially in informal settlements, roads and low-lying areas.
Local government spokesperson, James Brent-Styan says essential services such as water and electricity may be affected, and disruption of traffic flow is very likely.
“Low lying areas will be affected by the storm. All emergency services are on standby across the province. Members of the public are urged – in the event of any emergency – to contact the emergency services immediately on 112. This is a toll-free number and can be dialled from any cell phone.”
