The Western Cape Emergency Medical Service has dismissed claims that paramedics are not provided with full kits.

A group of paramedics at Khayelitsha Hospital have been protesting since the weekend.

But EMS Management says parmedics are provided with the correct PPE as per departmental guidelines and based on medical evidence.

They added that workers disputed this and refused to work unless the department adhered to their perceived ‘PPE’ demands.

Spokesperson, Deanna Bessick, has also rejected allegations that paramedics have not been screened and tested for Covid-19.

“The staff do not meet the case criteria to be tested. We however test all staff members who meet the criteria. Management has engaged with the staff since the unhappiness was brought to their attention, and they continue to do so”.
